Hope Solo, Dancing With The Stars

0

Soccer superstar Hope Solo will be getting her kicks in a whole new arena as she brings her competitive spirit to the Dancing With The Stars stage.

Hope Solo is widely considered the best goalkeeper in the world and has been the starter for the United States Women's National Team since 2005. She scored 109 goals as a high school forward before moving to goal at the University of Washington near her hometown of Richland.

At the 2011 World Cup, Hope recorded two shutouts in group play and then, in what is considered one of the greatest soccer games in history, made a save on a penalty shootout against Brazil in the quarterfinal, helping the Americans advance to the semis. The U.S. reached the finals, falling to Japan in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw.

Hope was awarded the Golden Glove by FIFA as the tournament's top goalkeeper. She was also the starting goalkeeper for the United States in the 2007 FIFA Women's World Cup and the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing where the U.S. women's team won the gold medal by defeating Brazil 1-0 in extra time. This was in no small measure due to Hope's performance as she stopped an energetic Brazilian attack, making save after save.

Hope began her Women's Professional Soccer career playing for Saint Louis Athletica and was named Goalkeeper of the Year in 2009. Since then, she has played for the Atlanta Beat and currently plays for MagicJack as the starting goalkeeper and is a two-time WPS All Star. Not bad. Not bad at all.

When not playing soccer, Hope enjoys reading, basketball, beach volleyball and other outdoor activities. She loves traveling the world and gives back through community service projects. We're pretty sure she'll also love the challenge of trying to win it all on Dancing With The Stars.

Although her parents divorced when she was six and she lived with her mother, Solo maintained a close relationship with her father, who continued to be a major influence in her life until his sudden death in June 2007.

On August 29, 2011 Hope Solo was confirmed to be a contestant on the 13th season of Dancing with the Stars. She is paired with professional dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy.

Chaz Bono has become one of the most talked-about Dancing with the Stars contestants ever -- and the fourteenth season of the ABC smash doesn't even premiere until Monday, Sept. 19!

But Bono, 42 -- the first transgendered person to ever compete on the show -- is already suited up and ready to dance his way to the top.

On Monday, ABC released the first official promo shots of the latest crop of celebs set to compete on the reality competition.

With pro partner Lacey Schwimmer at his side, activist and author Bono looks dapper in a vest, tie and slacks. His sexy competition includes Italian model-actress (and George Clooney ex) Elisabetta Canalis -- who shows off her world-famous bod in a clingy, white-sequined gown with partner Val Chmerkovskiy. Also sporting an enviably toned, dancefloor-ready bod? Reality star Kristin Cavallari, who's partnered this year with Mark Ballas.

Oksana Grigorieva and Mel Gibson in Court

0

The Mel Gibson and Oksana Grigorieva custody case was finally settled in an L.A. court on Wednesday when the formal settlement was signed off by the judge in the presence of both the actor and his ex-girlfriend. RadarOnline has the details of the deal. The court ruled that M-Gib and his Russian flame have joint custody of their child, daughter Lucia.

Gibson is to pay Oksana $750,000 in three payments, and eventually Lucia is to receive the amount of money that is due to all Gibson’s children by his marriage to Robyn.

Oksana and Lucia are now occupying the house bought for them by Gibson, and the house will remain their property until the girl turns 18, upon which the house will be sold and the money placed into a trust for the daughter. Meanwhile the actor can visit the house whenever he chooses with the stipulation to bring along a designated person.

Any audio tapes of Gibson that Oksana may be in possession of must not be given over to the media unless Oksana is ready to forfeit the money due to her.

Daryl Hannah Arrested

0

Actress Daryl Hannah has been arrested in front of the White House along with other environmental protesters who oppose a planned oil pipeline from Canada to the U.S. Gulf Coast.

The sit-in Tuesday involved dozens protesting the Keystone XL pipeline. It would go through Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas to refineries in Houston and Port Arthur, Texas.

Before she was arrested, Hannah told The Associated Press the protesters want to be free from dependence on fossil fuels. The group calls for clean energy investments instead. Hannah says they hope President Barack Obama will not bow to oil lobbyists.

Hannah sat down on the sidewalk near the White House and refused orders from U.S. Park Police to move.

She has been arrested in the past for environmental causes.
